I looked up silk air flights from singapore to manado and it costs 585 sgd with taxes. Thats 385 dollars and a 1/3 of what it cost me to get to the area in the first place from NYC! I looked it up for August, anyone know how to get something a little cheaper?

Other airlines fly to Manado - off the top of my head not sure - but try Garuda and maybe Merpati. Also you might look at via Kuala Lumpur.

Singapore airlines were doing a deal earlier this year of free onward flights into SE Asia from Singapore Changi airport.

Also, you may be able to get a better deal from travel agents in Manado - try Safari Tours - Jeremy who owns it is British and has had many years' experience working in Manado.

thanks everyone, Garuda is much cheaper, 111 us dollars from jakarta, not a huge deal. Thinking about doing that.

This is a recent garuda flight after it landed in Yogyakarta. I think the Australian Govt has advised its citizens to avoid them.

If in and around Singapore, look up www.chanbrothers.com they are based in Singapore and sometimes have good deals. I used them several years ago with Silk Air from Singapore to Manado!

the reservations on chanbrothers does not work, would like to see there prices. We definitely wont be flying garuada as my girlfriend is scared of flying and she saw the pictures.

I too was shocked at the price of rt SIN-MDC in June 2007. I was looking it up when I booked my trip in fall 2006 and the price was $1154 SG back then. It went down to $500SG ($380ish USD) when I did the actual booking on Silkair.com in April 2007. The websites seem to only offer full fare Y tickets far out from the actual date, and lower the price (by changing the Fare class to lower fare classes) as you get closer to the date of travel. Sort of the opposite of that in the US.

Yeah, it is expensive to go on Silkair, but it makes up for it with only a 3 hour adventure rather than >9 hours on Garuda from SIN, or on other airlines that are difficult to book via the web.

Have a great trip, however you get to Manado.
