Crystal Simple Green is considered compatible with o2 cleaning. Is there any supporting documentation to suggest that regular Simple Green is not?

Very interesting reading, I would never of thought a 1:500 ratio would be sufficient to clean parts. I also found the part about heat destroying the cleaner interesting. The only thing that I could see making a difference between the two products is the dye. The crystal simple green costs more than the standard product, you pay more for them to not add the dye:confused:?

My understanding is that the dye is difficult to remove. Also consider that many fragrances are based upon aromatic compounds containing a benzene like ring... I think I'll use the Crystal Simple Green - without the dye or fragrances - for my O2 cleaning. :)

McMaster Carr has it - and shipping (for a gallon) was pretty cheap.

The crystal has no dye but does have the fragrance.

I noticed a 5% ratio not a 1:500.
which makes sense as you buy a spray bottle and it states it's concentrated and should be mixed 20:1. Then you need to find a containment vessel to hold 95% so you can dilute the rest of it.

Aqua-Andy - SimpleGreen's web-site claims Crystal Simple Green is "fragrance free"

Crystal Simple Green Industrial Cleaner/Degreaser

Likewise - the most recent MSDS sheet lists only 2 ingredients - which are both surfactants.

I don't believe this product contains any artificial fragrance - other than naturally associated with the surfactants.

I've used both, but prefer the blue gold as when you heat it it goes opaque and it is very easy to see any slick that forms.

Looks like NESS is stocking Blue Gold. Might have to try it out. Thanks for the tip.

I stand corrected. Did they change the formula? The stuff I have is not odorless and it is defiantly not just a chemical smell.

In fairness to your post they MAY have changed formulations. The MSDS sheet from 2/12 ( a US version) lists < 1% of a "proprietary" fragrance. The 6/12 version of the MSDS is an EU version and lists no such ingredient - either because its not there - or because of different reporting requirements.

Could be they have separate versions for US and European distribution, or it could be that they changed formulation in the past year. Or it could be that the laws / definitions regarding "fragrance-free" are so poorly defined - we may never know. :)

A case could be made for both of us being right. But I still think I'm going to try some of that Blue Gold and see if I like it better!
