Hi all,

I had another logbook run out and decided I would do a simple one in excel that I can have on my phone and log my dives. I do not upload from my dive computer and just wanted a simple way to manually log my dives.
I do back it up onto a cloud storage and update the backup after logging dives.

Anyway, I've decided to share here if anyone is interested.

I hope sharing this doesn't violate any rules.

I'll look into that. I did use an if to display a 0 for the SAC, but didn't for the RMV.
I also noticed that when downloaded on my android device, sheets allows you to edit the cells that I had protected. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Or, prevent the DIV/0 error in the first place by incorporating the IFERROR function into the formula. Basically, it the formula is going to return an error, the IFERROR function can be set to return "" (two quotes with nothing in between) to keep the cell blank, or incorporate your own error message/instruction such as "Please enter a value in cell --".
Lots of tutorials on the function out there, but the one at How to use the Excel IFERROR function | Exceljet actually uses a DIV/0 error as an example. Other tutorials may well use the same example, but I opened this one first.

I have a much simpler spreadsheet for my divelogs. I've saved it on my OneDrive account so it's automatically synchronized to the cloud and across devices, and it's accessible via web browser.

It's a simple Excel table that's like 20 columns wide: Dive#, Time(start), Time(end), duration, max depth, vis, etc. I even have it track nitrox, trimix, cave, scooter, stage, etc dives individually and it tracks how many of each I've done. The vast majority of my diving is with the same gear, so I don't care about tracking that....but my wife does, and she has a separate table off to the right with each unique gear config and weighting associated.

The best part is that because it's excel, I can log whatever I'd like. I've added columns in the past and deleted them, and it's SUPER dense. It doesn't look like a "form" it just looks like a giant table.

Years ago I used to use a website called diverecord and loved that it had many options for recording even if I don't do so most of the time. Since I was doing this I basically used its format as inspiration for this excel version. I like have the option to record stuff. If not, just fill in what you feel like.

I like the form, and for printing off and stuffing in a binder it's perfect. I simply formatted mine in a way that the data was more dense.

Also: I read "diverecord" as "DiverCord" and thought it was a pretty weird name. I'm tired.

Or you can use Subsurface, which is free and runs on Windows, Mac, Linux, and has a mobile version for Android. I don't use an iPhone, so I don't know whether they have a mobile app for iOS yet or not. I think they've been working on it. Not sure if it's "out" yet or not.

Subsurface has free Cloud storage and automatic syncing. It will also download from just about any dive computer. The mobile app will download via Bluetooth, if your dive computer supports that.

Run the app on your phone while the dive boat is bringing you home. Log your dive. Get back to your computer. Open your log and see everything you entered while using your phone on the boat. Add to it, if you want to. Attach pictures.

Run the mobile location service and it will capture your GPS coordinates while you're out on the dive boat, so it can automatically include your actual location of your dive in the log. Or you can use the Globe panel in Subsurface to pan and zoom to find the location you want to save with that dive.

It also has customizable printing capability. And a built-in dive planner that is suitable for rec or tech dive planning, for those that want that.

Interestingly, that was my 1st choice as well (it was brought to my attention through numerous recommendations like yours on SB), but for some reason it just wouldn't work on my Android (running M). Tried uninstalling it several times and just gave up and put this together. Not sure what else I could have tried to get it working. In the future I plan on giving it a try again, but for now this will do.
I agree though, based on the features you listed, it clearly would be a better option.

10-4. Just as an FYI, there has been a lot of progress on the Android version in the last couple of months. I think, technically, to get the latest, which is a 2.0 version, you have to subscribe to the Android-mobile Beta.

If you want to do that, go to the following link and then click the link there (near the top) to "opt-in" to the beta.

With the latest mobile version, I have not had any issues, really. The only one I can think of is that it seems like it only syncs with the Cloud when you start the app. So, when I download dives into the mobile app, I have to exit the app and then go back into it, to get it to sync, before my new dives will show up in the log on my desktop computer. And, that may or may not be fixed in the latest version. I haven't checked.
