Similans update!

Caribbean - wish I was at The Similans.....nevertheless some customers returned yesterday and they say the water temps were between 28 - 30C with brief Thermoclines at around 25C.

Off Karon beach yesterday 30C.

Have a tremendous cruise!!

I have just finished my third liveaboard trip in November. Water temperatures are 30C to 31C - that is 84F to 86F - at sites ranging from Richilieu down to Hin Daeng. On the northern sites - Richilieu, Ko Tachai, Elephant Head, etc. - just great - up to 40m on some days. In the last few days the closer in sites King Cruiser, Shark Point, Anemone Reef was quite reasonable. Throughout the last 10 days there was little or no current.

For larger creature folks. Manta sightings at Ko Tachai and Elephant Head. Quite a few Zebra Shark sightings - Shark Point, Anemone Reef, Ko Tachai, etc. Good schooling Spadefish and Barracuda at Ko Tachai.

And yes those fellas at R rock are infact tiger tail seahorses. Don't think there are such species as dragon tail seahorse. Thanks for straightening that

You can give this information to anyone you like. Diving (to me) is all about finding and sharing interesting critters (with other divers) and getting more divers interested in the smaller and easy to miss creatures.
Ofcourse I do hope that you all are very careful not to disturb the environment of these tiny animals and that no one will touch or harass them.

Bowmouth
The guys on the last cruise on Le Mahe saw Mantas at Shark Fin Reef. Just wondering if you guys have also seen them there?

Nope, only thing we saw at Sharkfin Reef was (1) a Bumphead Parrotfish, (2) a long-line fishing line - with hooks - Bowmouth retrieved most of it, and (3) a large green towel from Devil Divers.

Oh dear, did you guys surprise the poor parrotfish while he's trying to take a shower? He was probably using the towel as a shower curtain... :mooner:

Also, looks like the horny Durian fruit may be veering through the Thai isthmus and will come dangerously close to Phuket and the Similians later this week.

Ofcourse I do hope that you all are very careful not to disturb the environment of these tiny animals and that no one will touch or harass them.

That is why I have my diving knife with me There aren't that many things I hate more u/w than harassing marine life. Some divers unfortunately don't have respect for nature. Luckily in tropical waters there are a bunch of corals and critters that can teach one a lesson if you touch them.

And thanks once again for the info. I'll pass it on to the diveshop we're diving similans/surin with.

Also the divers on The Junk saw a Whaleshark at Richelieu Rock. And again the divers on Le Mahe saw a manta at Shark Fin Reef. Good news!

Oh hey, whale shark was sighted at Hin Daeng 25/12 - 5m.. it was really fast tho.. we were ending our dive near a school of batfish and suddenly there it was.. woohoo!

Also, school of 20+ blacktips at local dive site at PP - Palong North last week.

Will be back 20/12!
