Thanks, Christi. That helps a lot. I don't need exact numbers so no need to check receipts. I've seen LOTS worse prices on batteries in some places, so those don't seem bad compared to the weight of carrying them with us.

mattboy, I certainly understand your point. It's likely that after a few uneventful night dives I'll relax and not be as rigid about this or switch to rechargeables. I currently use DandyDon's system of donating the batteries to the DM, but in my case I offer the "old" ones on the boat before I put the new ones in. That way, I've got my super-fresh batteries for the dive and can use the lights at the hotel, in town, for night snorkeling at the beach, etc.

You'd be better off buying a charger and 4 aaa battery from the US. They often have it on sale for cheaper than the batteries alone!

These batteries last as long or longer than alkaline (is it the pixtreme?). I would bring 2 or 3 on your dive, and change them between dives - as if it is the pixtreme, it would last only 20 to 50 photos per charge. Even less if you used flash.

Thomas sells an AA to C adapter

Can you provide a link? Their site isn't wanting to divulge the secret to me. AA's in converters wouldn't last as long as 5,000mAH C's, but rechargination would be much less problematic. I still think I'll go with alkalines this trip if only because of time, but I could at least certainly use such adapters around the house.

Didn't read the other posts, did ya? Only 12 before yours....!

Here's the adapter from AA to D or C: http://www.thomas-distributing.com/batteryadapter-index.htm but I'd hate to replace a C or D with a single AA.

In fairness to fisherdvm, I don't think I'd specified the make of my kid's crapola-cam before he asked, and I'm pretty certain the name of the company to which we're all referring is "Thomas Distributing."

Thanks, DandyDon, for the link to the adaptors that for some reason I couldn't find. I don't think I'd use 4 AA's in a light designed for C's, but around the house those might be just the ticket. On a trip I'd still have the charger issue, since I'd have to carry chargers for 18 batteries if I wanted to do them all simultaneously. Who wants to tend battery chargers on vacation?

Here is a link to the holders, it took me a minute to find them.....knew darn well they had them, I just got mine last week. :)

So far the test have come out well. As best as I can find, Duracell akaline C's are rated around 7800 mHa which makes the AAs about 1/3 of the capacity of Cs. Considering I can recharge them quickly and the fact they are lasting almost 3 hrs in my light, I think them may be a better option than single use C's

OK...$49 pesos ($4.53 USD) per 2-pack of Duracell "C" batteries is what I paid last week.

Chedraui did not have any C's in Feb. Did not even see a display for them. Plenty of AA, AAA, 9volt and D but no C's. Photo store downtown had none also. I stoped at many places but no C's anywhere.

Check with Christi for a place in Coz to get them! I couldn't find any!
