A personal New Year's Resolution is to get more of my photos organized & uploaded.

So far, so good: I now have online a portfolio of 200+ images of the various homemade signs that Divers left on Cayman Brac at the Divi Tiara (closed in Sept 2006), which were taken that same Fall.

Here's the Webpage.

I've also left the directory open, so for those divers who find their old sign (or of a friend) are free to download a .JPG copy. Enjoy!

Awesome! Thanks for doing this! Unfortunately, I didn't see a picture of ours from our honeymoon in 1995 ("Aggies in Paradise" in maroon and white). Not too surprising that it didn't survive that long, it was a fairly flimsy piece of driftwood and I don't think we nailed it up all that well.

I can recall seeing an "Aggies" sign at some point over the years; not sure if it was your's. Do you remember where it was hung up? I could try to track it down from its 'known location' on my next trip to the Brac.

Of course, even well-made signs have a rough time standing up to some of the weather the Caribbean Sea sees. For example, if your sign had been hung out on the dive dock, here's a photo of the damage that the dock took after CAT 5 Hurricane Ivan passed by (100 miles to the South of the Brac) in Sept 2004:

It has been a long time, and I am having a hard time separating my memories of Divi from my memories of Brac Reef, but I seem to recall it being along a railing that you would see if you were facing west...can't remember if it was near the dive shop or on the dock. If I had to guess, I would say it was along the west railing of the dock. I was on LC in November about a month after Ivan came through, and most of the docks were gone. So unless somebody went out and took all the signs down during the preparation, I doubt it survived that one, if it was even still up by then.

Nice work, I think our sign was put up somewhere in the time frame of the early 90's. It's probably been gone for years as the sun and weather were not too conducive to painted signs from not fading or blowing down. The memories I'll always cherish, the Divi was "the best" in my years of diving, I can't think of a place that I enjoyed more. I think I was there at least a dozen times, mostly during spring break week, but also in the month of October and September. I could always count on going to Little Cayman nearly any day we spent on the Divi/Brac which gave us a wonderful variety of places to dive, it was such joy.
I've also stayed at the Brac Reef on a number of occasions and once rented a timeshare off site....I can't remeber the name, but it was near the Captains Table restaurant, they were pink. The Brac Reef does not support many trips to Little Cayman and are not too open to suggestions of divesites like the Divi always seemed to be. I certainly miss the opportunity to visit the Brac the way it used to be. Maybe someday the Divi will be rebuilt, but I have my doubts for the forseen future.

Looking at those photos makes me want the Divi back. The photo shop had a certain smell, I always loved that smell, kind of like bleach and stucco mixed with the smell of airconditioning and neoprene...I liked the feel the cool air on the inside of the shop in stark contrast to the hot sunshine outside.
