Question on regs for side mount: Do regs with rotary turrets on the first stage help alot with hose routing or is this feature just nice to have? Thanks in advance.

I do not use rotary turrets, BUT I do use a 90 degree elbow on all second stage regs.

The idea on sidemount is to maintain tight streamline of all equipment as possible. Turrets allow the reg hose to turn away from the divers body increasing the possibility of a snag.

Positioning the 1st stage in the correct angle on the cylinder will help keep the reg hose in the proper position.

I agree with Curt, and subscribe to that. I have always used Sherwood firsts because they provide a low profile without a turret swivel, and they can streamline very well with great hose positioning. I like the fixed 90 for the 2nd stage, but not a swivel because they fail easily. I am picky about my seconds stages, and in this case don't use the Sherwoods, but like simple unbalanced seconds that move a lot of gas.
