Our tally is 14 trips to Bonaire, 2 to Curacao and one night spent in Aruba. Next trip is to Bonaire. If you do all three look at the flights for your ease, avoid DAE who have had lots of recent delays. Divi Divi and Tiara were on time when we were there in October. I wouls spend the bulk of your on Bonaire then a few days in Curacao and a couple of nights at most in Aruba.

Have a great trip.

I'm now waiting (patiently?) for a buddy to let me know the dates he will be coming out. He is only doing a week so his dates will determine our schedule.

I was wondering about the tank rentals. I know not to leave stuff in the truck and keep it open which is not a big deal as we will take all our gear when we dive, but what about spare tanks? Are those safe to leave in the vehicle? I'd rather have several tanks with me than have to keep returning to a rental spot after each dive. What is the beast way to handle this?

Leaving your spare tanks in your truck while diving is not a problem. During busy seasons some of the dive shops ask that you not take more than two tanks per person at a time but this is mostly a courtesy to others and I have not ever seen it enforced. The island is small enough that you can easily get back to your dive shop during a surface interval.

If you don't dive on Aruba you will be missing out. Aruba has great dive sites and right now the water should be a little colder than usual for Aruban standards( mid to low 70's) and therefore you might see even more and bigger sea creaturese( there already are plenty).

The upside is that all the islands are very close and you won't waste much time getting from one to the other. Also due to the short distance between them the plane won't be flying at high altitudes. NOTE: i'm not implying to dive and fly.

I would recommend starting at Aruba 4 days,3 days Curacao, and the rest Bonaire.

As always don't consume anything at the hotels it will cost you.

Alot of people that recommend skipping diving in Aruba have never dived in Aruba. Actually the diving in Aruba is quite interesting. Wrecks, drifts and reefs.

I agree with Highlandfarmwv. Diving in Bonaire (especially shore diving) is definitely easier than in Aruba, but diving in Bonaire is not necessarily better, if you know where to dive in Aruba. The big dive operators in Aruba will only take you to the dive sites that are conveniently located for them, even though they know that these are not the best sites.

Diving in Aruba is in my opinion more exciting (again if you know where to dive) and more varied than diving in Bonaire. In Bonaire I felt like all the dive sites (the reefs) looked and felt more or less the same.

So do not skip Aruba.

There are good spots to dive on each of the 3 islands, but of the three Bonaire is the one that really caters to divers. Bonaire Dive & Adventure used to have unlimited fills for $100 per week and boat dives were another $25 each. I am sure it has gone up some. Vehicle break ins and fraudulent repair claims by car rental companies are common. Bonaire is overbuilt with 2 bedroom condos and somewhat short on hotel rooms close to town. The best deals are quad occupancy.

The main town on Curacao definitely has retained its European charm, which may be an attraction. Outdoor cafes in town offer inexpensive good meals. We used Seascape divers located at the Hilton. There is a good inexpensive restaurant down the street at the Clarion Hotel.

Aruba is very expensive. Its hard to find dinner main dishes for less than $22 and food quality often does not match the prices. The hotels are also high. During off season $180 gets you one night in a motel room at the beach, add another $100 for in season. The closest thing to it would be Grand Cayman. Expensive, nice beaches, crowded with tourists, and divers are in the minority. There may be some good dive shops on Aruba, but I did not find one and other divers were complaining.
