A customer brought his BCD in for service. He complained that something must have broken loose and implied that we "had not screwed everything together tightly" since his last service 5 years previously. Also assured me that he cleaned it assiduously after use.

I removed the hose fitting (in front of him) and gave it a shake.

Here's what popped out:.

His expression was priceless.

This is a good lesson to everyone that thinks that rinsing your BCD is a big waste of time. Oh yes, his regs were in equally bad condition.
Okay, you have now taken all of the "weight" out of his BCD.

Did you proactively provide him with instruction on how to establish proper neutral bouyancy now that you have screwed up his trim?

You sure he is not smuggling Crystal Meth?

Do you guys flush through the inflator hose, or remove the hose and flush though the open port? Why?
1. Remove the dump valve.
2. Pour water through the opening port and then replace the dump valve.
3. Inflate the bc fully and flush through the power inflator.
4. Repeat the same process at least 3 times.
5. Afterward, fully inflate the bc and let it sit in the shade overnight.
6. When I get home I will fully inflate the bc and let it sit in the shade over several days.
7. Store the partially inflated bc in the suit case.

This video is very helpfull (actually all his videos are very helpfull).

I flush through the hose. There is salt in there so may as well clean it out while your cleaning your BCD.

I’m not saying my way is the right way, or that there is even a right way.. I run water in through the inflator and out the dump valve. No unscrewing anything no chance I cross thread and damage anything. Fill slosh around dump, repeat. I do depress and drain a little through the inflator to flush through the low pressure connector, after a rinse or two I taste a little of the drain water to confirm no salty taste.

Oh crap.....I just pee in mine.
I know I have most likely forgotten some of my training.

Which drill where we supposed to fill our BCD with salt water?

Once a year I will disassemble and do several water flushes.
