I am about to get either the TX50/DS4 or the ATX100 or the ATX50 ... anyway this is my first reg. I have not dived before. Should I get the Nitrox version or the regular version. What is the difference? If I get the Nitrox version can I still use it on just air? So many questions...

You can get the nitrox version but

Why pay the extra $, get the non nitrox version and if you want to do nitrox you can have it converted. i still thinks its cheaper than buying the nitrox version.

im sure some hard core apeks divers will have more specific info than i.

With the growing popularity of Nitrox comes the easy availability of very competitively priced Nitrox compatible computers. The prices have come down quite a bit over the last couple of years to the point that it is almost easier to find a nitrox pc than a non-nitrox unit.

The first thing you need to look at is what features do you want your PC to have. Air Intergrated or not? PC downloadable? Layout of display? Backlit? Etc. etc., etc. If you find Nitrox is on your wish list, then go for it.

Most EANx compatible PCs allow you to set the O2%. They will also have the ability to be set for "straight air". That's the way my Aeris works.

Does this help?

I think you need to go back and re-read the question, sub :)

The cost appears to be the same. I think I will want to do Nitrox in the near future. My question is, is there a reason I should not get a Nitrox (compatible) reg to start out with.

Plus I already got the Suunto Mosquito!

Dammit, you're right roak.

My only defense is that I'm still jet lagged from being almost 3 weeks out of the country to Europe & Egypt. It's hard not to fall asleep in your soup at 6pm when your body is telling you it's 7 hours later than the clock says!

Mea culpa. Do I genuflect now, or wait till later? ;)

Bump... does anyone know the answer? Please?!? I want to order this week.

If you are a new diver, YOU WILL NOT BE USING NITROX!!! Nitrrox requires a special class. Furthermore you should NOT take this class until you have a firm understanding of diving with regular air mix.

The only difference are the orings and the cleaning process. It's easy and relatively inexpensive to have the reg changed over to Nitrox if and when the time comes.

Buy the ATX not the TX... the 1'st stages are identicle and the 2'nd stage is "supposedly" smaller which I can not tell but I can tell you that it is indeed quite a bit lighter.

The benefits of Nitrox vs. the cost in my opinion are not worth it for sport diving.

The main benefits of nitrox are simply longer bottom time and quicker recovery between dives.... is it worth it??? In my opinion, nope.

Good Luck :D

What is the real difference?
Color of plastic??

Apeks used to be good out of the box to 40% O2...
I doubt that they have changed that and started goobering them up with grease and flammable o-rings... but you never know ;)

I use them out of the box on my nitrox bottles....
I have them O2 serviced for my deco bottles (^PO2)

Get the regular ones....
Unless you really like green and yellow.
