Oh wow that's good to know @Brendan_T. So renting everything is $93/day + $14 for night dives. I am going to be there a week, so that'll really start to add up! Hoping some Memorial Day sales trigger price drop alerts on my gear wish lists.

I'll be there the last weekend of June going into the July 4th week, so maybe I will see you there!

I haven’t rented gear in decades , but you might want to see if there is a package rental as opposed to piece by piece. I believe some (many) shops that have a package price substantially less than the sum of the piece by piece.

That said , if if you plan on scuba diving more than a few times , you should buy a mask snorkel and fins (and likely booties ) that fit you well. You can use them to snorkel when not diving . One mask costs less than most two tank dives and a poorly fitting masks can easily ruin multiple dives. A computer would likely be the next thing people buy. If you aren’t diving a lot , no reason to buy an expensive computer (pricier isn’t safer , they mostly just have more features/colors etc )

It is also good (but considerably more expensive) to have your own BCD and reg so that you will know how they were maintained/treated. It is also perhaps even more important to have the same BCD/reg set up up every time so you will familiar them and get everything down to muscle memory. However for some people the cost and the possible baggage fees may not make the purchase financially justifiable.

FYI here are the Scuba Du rental fees:

Those are some high rental prices and no way you should have to pay that much each day. Many of the often mentioned dive ops here on SB offer a set of gear for $30-40/day.

Just a couple of suggestions to save on $$:

* First I would call/email and let the dive op (whoever you dive with) know how many days you want to dive, the dive gear you need, and ask how much they will charge for the gear each day - they may give you a deal for multiple days of diving.

*Get your own mask. The full face mask listed on the price page is not what you want. Can find a decent mask for $60 and up.

*As mentioned earlier in the thread, get a wrist computer for a couple hundred bucks. Best way to guarantee you have the same computer for all of your dives.

*Going in June, the water will be warm. A couple of options: 1) Get a shorty wetsuit, $70 and up 2) Skip the wetsuit and wear a rash guard instead

Dive with Martin provides gear for free (dive computer is not free

Dive with Martin offers free gear with the exception of wetsuits, dive lights and computers.
