When you equalize look UP, thrust the lower jaw out a little, and tilt the bad ear a bit toward the ceiling (up). All that stretches the Eustachian canal for easier opening. Try it, play around, you'll see.

New divers descending tend to look down and pull their chin in to see where they are going, which tends to make equalizing harder. I can't equalize at all if I do that.

We got hold of a diving doctor at the hyperbaric military hospital, he suggested a basic decongestant and to see if she can evenly equalise before the session. If not we will just have to cancel.

Hi Feldoh,

Glad that contact worked out for you.

On land she can do it though one ear equalised significantly before the other. She actually managed it underwater the first time but it took several mminutes, she was being careful.
Keep practising on land do 20 equalisations, dont force. look up the frenzl manoevre on u tube and see if it makes sense. Ent doc will only tell you if youve liquid in the middle ear caused by overpressure or possibily theres a deformation of the Eustachian tube ( v unlikely). Both flying and aircon can cause inflammation and liquid in the tube.
