Pug,
As I said, I am not a doubles diver...I don't have specific knowledge of doubles routing....probably shouldn't have added that comment about the right post ;-)
As to hose length -- say what you want, but 26" works for me.
I think there are obviously a few variables here -- size of tank (diameter), tank valve type, first stage config, tank mounting position, diver's body -- none of them make a big difference by themselves with this issue, but when added together, they could result in a few inches here or there. I also want to be able to turn my head at least slightly to the left with the back-up in my mouth.....
For my rig, my back-up is where I want it -- certainly reachable with mouth only and hanging no lower than the back-ups used by people I've either dove with or seen pictures of.
Tell you what -- I'll try and get some pictures of me taken this weekend with the gear on and my 26" hose and I'll post them in my profile (although the last pic I posted took tech admin intervention -- I'm a scanner misfit). I'd love to hear your comments about what you think of my hose routing.
Not trying to get into an "I'm right, you're wrong" argument -- I would truly appreciate some constructive criticism.
And I've still got that $30 22" hose sitting in my workshop in the basement ;-)
Respectfully submitted,
-LD
P.S.
I've found this site to have useful DIR hose routing diagrams (doubles & singles). It's in German (mine is rusty), but still useful:
http://www.dir-ger.de/frame.htm
- Click on "DIR" at the top of the page:
- Click on "Die Konfiguration" (the configuration)
- Click on "Ausrüstungkonfiguration von R. Wottrich" (Ausrüstung = equipment)
- Click on "Mehr über (more about) Hogarthian System und Doing it right!". (link at bottom of the page)
- Click on "Mehr Details über Ausrüstungskonfiguration - Atemgasversorgung (back gas supply) und Schlauchführung" (hose routing -- link at bottom of page)
Scroll down to view primary hose routing
To see the hose routing from the first stage -- click on the link at the bottom of the page entitled:
