I'm going to be down near Sebastian Inlet this weekend and am looking for some tips for shore diving there. I've heard that the area south of the inlet is calmest and safest so I'd like to stick to that area since it'll be me and my wife diving and my daughter will be snorkeling.

I'll be contacting the LDSs listed elsewhere in this forum when I get down there but I'd like to know ahead of time what kinds of things I can expect to see, how far out the swim is, danger areas to stay away from, expected visibility etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

Seas have been really rough for a while and even the seas calmed down by the weekend visibility will be nonexistent so forget any diving. For a non diving activity, take your family to the McLarity museum just south of Sebastian inlet...Tell's the history of the 1715 Fleet that went down in a hurricane ladened with gold and silver just off the beaches...really interesting

Hi Mkutyna and welcome to the scuba board :)
I have not done these shore dives but I have collected information on the dives. The wind has been comming from the wrong direction for a couple of weeks so I dont know how good your vis will be.
Good luck and be safe

Intermingled on this site is the wreckage of an 1890 merchant ship carrying slag iron.

That information is great. You have collected a very valuable list and your willingness to share is admirable.

I was wondering if you had anything for someone that just got a boat and wanted to go out of Sebastian Inlet. I have not had dive tanks on board yet but wanted to break it in close to home. I have not found many/any places out of Sebastian Inlet. Seems everything is sending me down to Jupiter or WPB areas. I have family coming to town later in the month and they wanted me to take them diving so I thought I'd ask. Thanks in advance for any reply.

Where are you in Cocoa Beach? I live down in the Snug Harbor area and teach diving out of The Fishing and Diving Center

Sorry I don't :( only these sites.
But surely some of the other members with boats may know.
Good luck :) and safe diving

Kim,

This is great information. I'll have to check some of these sites out. I normally do shore dives further South.

I've done most of them...When the conditions are right...these are some of the best diving sites in Florida

If you want to go out of sebastian you can check out artificial reefs. Go to this link and pick either Indian River or Brevard for a list of all the reefs (the inlet straddles the counties). Visibility isn't likely to be good though because the weather has been rough.
