Hey guys, I'm traveling to the Morehead area to do the Dive Down experience on the Queen Anne's Revenge (Blackbeard's old ship). The only draw back is the 2 day event only has 2 dives so I was wondering if anyone knew of good shore dives in the area. I would love to meet up with somebody to do a few dives if possible, or just get some information on where a good dive is. I'm planning on diving either Fri, Sat, or Sun this week (July 19-21). Any inof would be great, Thanks
Judson

A place called the Radio Island Rock Jetty is your best (only?) bet. It's not a hard dive, but you have to dive it at high slack tide, there is a bit of a walk, and it's probably best to go with someone who has been before for your first time. Watch out for boats in the channel and don't drift past the fence (the fence with the sign about the use of deadly force for trespassing) with the outgoing tide.

My recommendation would be to ask the people you're diving with for some pointers, or stop by Discovery Diving in Beaufort and see if they are running their gear barge over to the site over the weekend.

Best of luck with the dives.

Are you doing the whole program on the Queen Anne's Revenge? I found out about it too late, even with the limited dives it sounds like a neat program (I've had a recent interest in Pirates ever since my 6 y/o got into them). Any review you can provide about the program would be greatly appreciated. I am hoping they'll do it again next year so I have an opportunity. I imagine at some point it's going to be closed to diving (more closed than it is now) for more thorough archiological programs.

Actually, I wasn't able to do the dives bc I was in town the weekend of the sudden tropical storm. I learned all about the wreck and archaeological stuff though. It was very neat.

As you said they won't be diving much longer, they are constantly bringing up artifacts. Eventually they will have everything removed to preserve it. Since it is in very shallow water, it would be destroyed if it was left there to dive. My advice is getting in contact with Lauren Hermley and asking her any questions you may have. Go ahead and book a weekend for next year. in 2-3 more years everything will have been removed.

That stinks you didn't get to do the dives.

Thanks for the update, I'm going down next month. I'll do a little research and see what's available for my son to visit.
