Spending a few days in Aquadilla to go diving. The first day is planned to be a shore dive at Crash Boat or similar shore diving sites.

HOWEVER, I carry a big heavy Ikelite dSLR camera rig, and don't really like to shore dive unless conditions are calm and the swims are short.

Should I do the shore dives, or just get on a boat the first day, and do a boat dive.
I plan to do some trips to Mona and desch. Island later in the week.

Recommendations appreciated.

The swim in Crash Boat Beach is very easy, but the wave action can vary. It can be very calm, but is not uncommon to have some waves. In most conditions it is a very easy entry. On the other hand, if the waves are large enough the visibility can be poor anyway.

Take a look at my trip report below. Last month dive in Crash Boat Beach was the worst I ever had there.

We went to Desecheo with Taino divers and it was great. If you go out with them tell Carson I said hi...Luis... the double hose diver :D
Taino divers has a great operation.

Who are you going to Mona with? I was under the impression that charter operator were not allowed on Mona at the moment. Something to do with user fees, etc.
I guess it doesn't matter if you are not going ashore.

I have only been to Mona once and that was over 30 years ago.

Some other great boat diving is down in Parguera.

Good luck and have a great time.
