Hi Forum,

My first post :)

I’ve a keen diver and have just completed my Rescue Diver and looking forward to progressing to DM. Unfortunately, I get very seasick and as such prefer dives that start from the shore. I’m based in UK (only speak English), however have travelled abroad for all my diving. I’ve found a lot of "live aboard" based DM courses, but they wouldn’t work for me.

Question/Request: I’m looking for recommendations for DM courses which are mainly "shore based" dives. Any pointers would be much appreciated.

Have you considered Egypt. BSAC's Dive Leader course holds EN 14153-3/ISO 24801-3 - 'Dive Leader', the same as DiveMaster. BSAC Egypt would run a course for you. You would need Nitrox in addition to Rescue Diver.

I am currently diving on Curacao and am finding that many of the dive shops here do not even have boats—the guided diving they offer is shore diving on their “house reef“ right in front of their shop. Given how popular shore diving is here, I think you could find a place that has a shore-based course.

Update to my post above: We dove at B Divers at Cas Abou beach on Curacao today and met a person doing his divermaster course there. I asked if it was a shore-based program, and he said yes—the shop doesn’t even own a boat. We found the shop to be professional and efficient and we liked everyone we met there.
