Good afternoon everyone!

I wondered if some one could point me to a thread or post with some info about shore access areas for diving in the GL region. I saw a thread from about a year ago, but it mostly talked about local quarries and in-land lakes. I have a few books about diving in the GL, but it would be nice to get some detailed info (like location, water temp, visibility, etc.) from people who have experience at various areas.

Thanks!

I recommend you get a good book of the wrecks in the great lakes, it will show there are some accessible from shore. I can tell you there are some wrecked tugs by shore in Tobermory Ontario in Lake Huron. There should also be some up by Munising and Marquette Michigan in Lake Superior, but I have not dove those. yet!

Pick up a copy of, The Great Lakes Diving Guide, by Chris Kohl. Its very thorough, interesting, and inspirational. Its probably available on Amazon.

I have all the books you all mentioned, but I'm looking for more info than some of the books provide. They have been helpful but I would like more detailed first hand info. Thanks!

Not sure where your at in the Mitten, but if you are interested in Great Lakes diving you could try to hook up with the BoneCrusher and myself in Port Sanilac. This isn't shore diving, but it is some really good wreck diving. I see you certified with Diver's Inc so you must be on the east side of the state.

Beware though. The bonecrusher is engaging in internal penetration progressive diving on the regina.

I'm sorry if this sounds a bit critical, but other than Thunder Bay Minnow, I don't think you're helping. As I read the original post, it seems like she's looking for recommendations on wrecks accessible from shore (and she noted that she already has books on Great Lakes diving). I looked at Ray's map and, while it is a really cool map, it's kind of like looking for a needle in a haystack. There are so many wrecks in the Great Lakes, it would take forever to click on every single one to see whether you can swim to it from shore.

I have to admit, I'm kind of curious, too. While boat dives are awesome, we don't all have access to boats. If people could give specific recommendations of wrecks you can access by surface swimming from shore, that would be awesome! Especially if there is one "launching" point where someone could do a few dives in a day to more than one site.

Thanks!
