Hey all.

I'm looking to meet up with my new topaz in cozumel this fall.

Any economical ideas for shipping it from Hawaii into Mexico? FedEx is something in the neighbourhood of 600$ for the 80 lbs of kit. I'm playing with a stop over in the states to pick it up and having it on a cargo plane but that seems problematic.

See you on the dark side!

I've never tried to ship anything to Mexico but I have always heard that it is problematic - very slow and subject to complicated and expensive import regulations.

I'm sorry, but I don't know what that is. It's in Hawaii, you're in Canada, and you want to take it to Coz? You'd be safer and I am sure cheaper to have it shipped to you, then fly it with you. Can it be broken down and packed in two bags under 50# each?

If you want any advice on flying with the Topaz, I'd reach out to Heather and Dave at Northern Atlantic Dive Expeditions. Both of them dove the Topaz extensively and traveled with their quite a bit so they can probably give you some tips on flying with it.

I shipped some t-shirts and cd's to Coz, by DHL, what a nightmare that was. Incoming taxes were over 1/3 of what the items were worth.

some of the issue was the recipient, but it was quite an ordeal all the way around. ... good luck.

p.s. ... what's a Topaz?

Heather and Dave have been invaluable! Thanks.

Ouch, that doesn't sound encouraging. Glad I checked first.

Topaz being the SMI Prism 1 rebreather, not something I'd like to pay a 1/3 in taxes on to say the least!
