I've been diving with my Terkel since last year and it's always worked perfectly. The canister fits Barry Miller's 9 ah battery, which you can get from ENR Technical (I think that's their name) for $150 or so.

In any case, while the thing is well built and solid, if I were buying now I'd in all likelihood get a Barry Miller light right now. The Terkel focus can't be adjusted underwater, and the spot isn't very tight. It certainly does do the job and it's very tough, however.

You want to get a miller light?

Sorry.

Spoon -- I dove with NW Grateful Diver yesterday, and he has a Terkel light, and I was absolutely and utterly WOWED by what a great light it was. I talked to Bob at some length about the light, which is manufactured locally, but it's a one man show, and the one man may not be doing it any more.

I went to my LDS, which I trust implicitly (even Bob told me I had gotten excellent advice about the gear I have bought so far) and talked to them about lights. They discouraged the Terkel based on what I said already and uncertain customer support. We talked about Night Rider, OMS, and a brand I hadn't heard of, Green Force. We went through all the specs, and prices, and construction and reliability and burn time. I came away fairly impressed with the Green Force lights, and came to -- of course -- Scubaboard to do research, and found that there were essentially NO negative comments about Green Force lights.

So now it's light cannon vs. Green Force canister light, $300 versus $750, and how much can I afford to spend on this sport anyway?

I'm thinking about the light thing too. I just compared prices, and it seems like all of them are in the same ballpark, for the same specs. Well, er, the "H" is a tad more, but it's close enough if you really, really want it. And the Dive Rite is soooo less expensive.

Dive Rite MR11 4.5A 10W HID from diveriteexpress: $500 (currently on sale-normally $650)
Dive Rite H10 4.5A 10W HID from diveriteexpress: $550 (currently on sale-normally $725)
Barry Miller 4.5A 10W HID from salvodiving: $725
Terkel Solly's 4.5A 10W HID from tech-blue: $750
Halcyon Helios 4.5A 10W HID from fifthd: $915
Greenforce: now if I could only find a place that sold them I would post the price

Decisions, decisions...

wow! we are certainly on the same boat:) i myself am confused. i am only considering halcyon but am limited to the reality of the price issue. there are as of the moment too many lights to choose from: terkell, green force etc. i am yet to make my mind up. the uk light cannon though seems like the most viable option for me as of the monent.... its only $154 by the way.

He is a one man band, but definitely still going strong. You can email him at terkel@terkel.net, he is always happy to respond to queries.

Cheers,

I have also heard good things about the Sartek lights:

There are kind of right in the price range at 725 for 10w HID with focusable head and charger.

Uh oh Jonnythan, it almost sounds like you're supporting Barry Miller. I'm telling Bob... :1poke:

The price on that Sea Elite is pretty darn good. Thanks for the research.
