Sherwood SR1

Not an expert here but, shouldn't they be adjusted and tuned prior to use? I know when I bought mine, a tech went through it and adjusted it before I tried it out in the pool.

Certainly the cracking effort could be adjusted, but 10PSI of IP creep is totally unacceptable IMO for a new regulator. That's not an adjustment, it means the HP seat and piston are not sealing very well. Some seats do need to be broken in a bit, but it shouldn't be nearly as bad in any circumstance as it was. And when I say high cracking effort, I'm talking about well over 2" of water. For a high performance reg that's pretty bad.

Granted, that was only one regulator, one time, so I probably shouldn't be trashing it.

Same experiences here. More variation out of the box than a lot of other regs. I've also seen the IP creep, although not some of the other problems mentioned. Although, to be fair, most of these have been on older stock, not the newest units. Hmmmm, thinking about it, there are a lot more SP's, Oceanic's, AquaLung's/Apeks' around than SR1's............

I have been a BIG fan of earlier model Sherwoods (though none of the past 10 or so years). I am still diving my 20+ year old Oasis + and love it. Sherwood has been off track since they switched to the oval shaped smaller second stages for the Oasis and others (IMHO Oasis II was their last good reg). I have not tried the SR1, but the reviews are mixed at best.

I too am diving my old Oasis and love it!!!

I'm not excited about the mixed reviews on the SR1. I got a newer magnum with the "oval shaped ..." a couple of years ago and I agree that they are not as good. So I keep it for my backup/loaner.

Still diving the older Oasis and no reason to switch.

Yep, Sherwood back in the day had it right. Their ad was "So simple, it's ingenious."

It is funny - I have an old Sherwood Brut that my Dad gave me when I was 10 (which was a long time ago), and it breathes better than all my more modern regulators (also all Sherwoods) except for the high-performance SR1s.

My SR1 gave up on me after 20 dives, actually I bought it last 9-11 (2009)
Free flow started after 5 mins in about 45f cold water @ 85ft. Now it's being serviced.
Thinking about getting a pony system.

mate just found out that his inhalation adjustment know is stuffed. adjusting in and out still leaves the inhalation effort to max. guess it will be a warrenty job.

I have blown out the o-ring in my SR1 and so has my mother. Can you share the trick you refer to?

We had two SR1 regs freeflow this week-end while at depth in cold 43-46 degree water. I post about this on the Sherwood manufactures thread and am waiting for thier reply.
