This is one on the top of my list for purchase consideration. Any input, opinions of this reg would be GREATLY appreciated. Its gettin time to buy... JOe

Sherwood makes great regs. They are probably the most common reg found in resort rental. Does this make them a good choice for your personal set? It would not be a mistake to buy a Magnum, but you could get a better performing reg for the same price.

Personally, I love Sherwoods. Cheap, easy to service yourself (if you feel so inclined), count on at least 15 years good use even if you never service it at all, and indestructable. I agree some performance regulators gives better good breathing flow, but I think complaining about flow on a Sherwood is like complaining about bad sex. It is still pretty good.

Yes, I have seen a few but, one of my concerns is my LDS. I would like to be able to get local service there and Sherwood is their brand.
I like the Oceanic regs and believe i could get a good deal on one which may be better than the Magnum but, we have no one local who services them, would have to be sent out.
This is one of my concerns.

I have a Sherwood Magnum regulator. I am the third owner, Dad...Sister...Me. I'm sure it wasn't serviced annually. Probably stuck in a box in the basement. I took it in before I started using it, and nothing wrong, just normal preventative maintenance.

It has been a very good regulator for me. I like the wide exhaust tree. From what I hear it's practically bullet proof. It isn't balanced so when my tank drops below about 1000 psi, I can usually feel that some extra work needed to get the same air. This really isn't a big deal.

That being said, I will probably replace it in time, but it's one of the last things on my list. For an inexpensive, no nonsense, low maintenance regulator, it's hard to beat. I got mine given to me. If I were buying a regulator, I would have to seriously look at other options in the smae basic price range (Zeagle DS V or Envoy Deluxe) .

A buddy just bought an Oceanic GT3. It is balanced and has an adjustable flow rate dial. Both nice options, especially the balanced first stage. Last weekend he seemed to be having an issue with it not giving him as much air as it used to. I asked him if he needed to adjust the knob, which he did. I'm not sure if it helped any.

His reg 8 months old, has 15 dives on it, my Sherwood probably 8 years old, who knows how many dives, still works as expected.

It's a difficult decision I know. If at all possible, try to use the ones you are considering before you buy. Hopefully your LDS will have demo models available. You may want to try a high end regulator for comparison so you know what a really good regulator should feel like.

I'll second the magnum. I have one of the new ones and have dove cold and warm, no complaints. this thing is a work horse and breathes well. YMMV.

I've used the oasis for 3 years now. Probably the last regulator I'll ever have. Love it. I bought another oasis and a magnum for my kids to use because I trust them. Our dive team uses the oasis, and even under the extreme conditions we subject ours too, they perform wonderfully.

I bought my Magnum in Germany in 1988. Used it as my primary all the way through May of this year including dives in water 32 degrees. Never a problem. This past Christmas, I got a SP MK25/S555. I'm using the Magnum as my secondary bungeed around my neck. It has been a great reg all these years.
