OK, now don't crucify me for wanting to use my avid for twin/tech diving. The back/wing will come in time, but trying to use what I have for now.

I read somewhere when I bought my Avid that it can be changed to allow use of
twin tanks. Now I cant find where I saw that. Do any of you have any info on this?

Jason

I know that the Outback can accept a s/s backplate but I am not sure about the Avid. If you want to see what the backplate would look like, take a look at my pics - there is a Genesis Recon in there with the s/s pro kit.

that looks very promising. Who makes it/sells it. The kit isnt listed on the Sherwood or Genesis websites.

that was/is the Akona pro kit as they called it....not sure if still available since it has not been on their site for a while. when it was around it was also $300-$400, maybe that is why they scrapped it

The backplate kit does not work on the Avid. You might want to consider selling it or trading it in on a backplate & wings. The Avid is an excellent BC for recreational diving but you REALLY need to read some of the manuals on Tec diving before you make any major decisions. There are reasons for using the gear we use. You need to read the manuals so you will understand what these reasons are and why recreational gear is not used in Tec diving.

With that said, there are several courses you can take now to get you started down the Tec road which you will be able to do in your recreational gear.

just a idea...
and i know its not what you where looking for
but if you look around im sure you can find a back plate on e bay or something for cheap. and just web it yourself if you wana save money..

it might make more sence to spend the money that your gonna use to set up your current bc to acept doubles on a BP, and it will be way more comfortable.

alto im not fimilar with your setup, i know alot of single tank BCs that can take doubles will require harp bands... again not sure about your configuration....

just trying to help from buying gear that in a years time will have you thinking.. "now what do i do with this"

I have ALOT of that

hope i was some help
good luck

My large Avid has 32 pounds of lift, if they can be mounted you better be careful with the rest of your configuration.

Ok pimp. I did some research myself about this. Old boy was right about not being able to change it over. The Tortuga and Axis are the only BCs that can be made twin tanks. Since you said not to crucify you, I won't. Some people on this board have no manners and think they are the defenders of all things SCUBA. If you are like me, you are not limited by no-deco time but by air time. It wouldn't be a bad idea if you wanted to add some air time with some twin aluminum-80's or if you wanted to do mulitple dives without needing to change out tanks. I guess some "SCUBA experts" don't think about this stuff when they post things. Not all twin tank divers are tech divers. We just like to breath more air. Hope this helps brother.
