Shearwater is usually good about answering emails. I'm at a loss as to why it won't download, sorry.

Can anyone tell me what is going on here? Would still very much like to get an example Shearwater *.db file to get the dive log all working before I dive with the new computer. Anyone?
give me your mail I will send it to you

Another option is to not stress over it, dive the computer and go from there. The most important part of getting a new computer is learning how it works ON A DIVE. Focus on that. Getting your settings the way you want them and learning how it will work throughout a dive. Once you have a few logged dives on the computer you’ll have plenty of time to learn how Shearwater Cloud works with those. Just my 2 cents. YMMV.

The cloud logging software is very buggy. I have dives listed from 1970 & some depths recorded are way off.

So for those who are not computer nerds, 1970 is the beginning of the UNIX epoch upon from which most date/times are computed. (0 is 1/1/1970 00:00 GMT) That means the value for your date/time is near zero -- likely either: (1) the date time was lost when batteries were changed (or the time was never set) or only the time was set and so the log is relative to day zero (1/1/1970)

I finally got a dive in with the Peregrine TX (PTX). It was in my pool but it did record as dive #1. When I downloaded and synced, only this dive was downloaded even though the "factory dive" was still in the PTX dive log. I guess the moral of the story is the "factory dive" isn't a dive that ever downloads. I have deleted it from the PTX

Ran into another problem....
I had a test dive made in my pool that I wanted to delete. I deleted it in Shearwater Cloud app and then did a sync (manually to be sure). I verified the dive was deleted on the Peregrine TX (PTX) as well. I shut the app and the PTXr down and restarted. The dive was downloaded from the cloud and reappeared in the app dive log! It was still gone on the PTX.

Is this a bug?

You deleted it first in the Shearwater Cloud app ? That means you had a sync before. If I want to delete a dive after doing it I delete it first in my Teric and make sure I had not a sync with the app.
Delete it again it should work. I can't explain exactly what happened to you...
Think about giving the right number for your next dive (if it was your number 2 dive and you delete it you have to give the number 2 for the dive you will make next time)
