I was worried about that too. just got my plates, and I don't find the edges any sharper than my original OMS plate for that matter. I haven't seen the "original" halcyon plates, but I heard those were sharp indeed, so my understanding is that they fixed the problem. anyone else wants to add?

I just bought a halcyon back plate about 2 weeks ago and the edges seemed pretty smooth to me. I never owned a backplate before so take it for what its worth... ;-)

I have never noticed the Halcyon BP sharp. I do not use a back plate anymore, all I dive is sidemount.

I've read a lot about the Halycon plates and fraying of webbing due to unfinished edges. Has this issue been addressed and remedied in-house?
(Halyon's house, not yours)

Sharp or not backplate will always fray webbing. You can cut mountain bike tyre tube and make a protection. It works pretty well for me. Mo2vation posted this in one thread: http://www.pbase.com/image/12733382

Got mine a month back and its fine !

All back plates will fray the webbing eventually. Thats why it helps to put the wieght stops behind the slots on the webbing, so that it minimizes web movement. Also even after they do eventually frey (100-200 divers or so) you replace the webbing for 15 bucks and smile that you dont have to buy a whole new BC! I hope this was not just a TROLL.

Why would this be a troll? I am close to buying a system and was weighing my optins for plates. I'd really like a Fred T plate, but the shipping may kill me, or I can wait until I go back to the states to pick one up. If I go with a total Halcyon setup, I can get it all locally.

If you search the threads on this topic (as I have in this process, and many thanks to all for past information), you will find plenty of Halcyon owners describing problems with sharp edges on their plates.

I am into DIY as much as the next guy, but if I plunk down a half grand or more for a full system, the last thing I expect to do is whip out my dremel for touch ups....
