Bought a pair of these.

I'll come back next weekend after I dive them to rave about how great they are.

I totally promise it won't be a shallow effort to camouflage my rationalization for the insane amount of money I spent on a single pair of fins.

They did make me look younger during the drive home from EE. I was finger gunning all the soccer and equestrian moms all along I-75 like the Hoff.

In all seriousness, I'm hearing positive reflections from folks that have tried them.

I tried on the new prototype compound today, too. They're slightly stiffer than the current production model

Where do you shop that they have a "prototype" compound?!? I love the Deep 6 Eddy fins that I just got so not really in the market anymore, but still curious so come back soon with info!

First dives with the new shoes on Thursday in Jupiter West Palm Beach.

If I sincerely like them for the stiffness, I acknowledge in advance I could be as obnoxious as Joan Rivers talking about a new fur coat.

I dived my new Salvatore Ferragamo Halcyon Vector fins today in a 1.5mm WS.

Trending positively but the jury hasn’t reviewed all the evidence yet.

I think they’re forcing me to actually focus on technique more. With the Dive Rite XTs and their huge paddle area I can afford to be a little lazy as I don’t have to follow through to closure on my frog kick stroke to get good power. With the Vectors, the narrower tip makes it evident that following through is necessary to get the same propulsion.

I was a little concerned the narrow tip was going to lend to occasional slicing but it doesn’t.

My modified flutter kick sucks (need to isolate my hip more) but I’m just good enough to observe the Vectors will allow a high RPM without gassing out the engine. I drifted away from the main body today, powered back to them, powered back over the reef to highlight a turtle, powered back, etc and they actually felt a little more efficient in this role than my XTs.

No problem with back kick. They don’t have the huge outside strake like Jets so a little bit of ankle articulation is necessary but no problem backing away.

Helo turns are easy.

I dived ST today so the fins felt adequately stiff (my preference) but I’m curious to see how they’ll feel driving a steel twinset and a couple of AL40s. That’s got the jury withholding a clear verdict.

I left the weights, the ones that look like suppositories for Big Iron Giant, in the fins just to see how much they drive negative trim. If I stopped and hovered with good arch, it was like I was on a seesaw with the pivot point under my hips. Definitely taking the weights out for tomorrow’s wet recreational ST dive.

I do like the feature of being able to transition with a single fin from a wet mode to a dry mode.

Kyle Harmon (GUE Instructor, GUE.tv demonstration diver, EE Store Manager) has been diving the new Vectors for about 18 months and is happy with them.

HTH others.

Took the weights out for today’s WS dives.

The fins didn’t really generate any immediate observations so that’s a good sign. No problem getting into an ultra-efficient, arched back, flat ventral, head up, I’m-a-fancy-dive-kitty hover.

I typically make pretty good power with my frog kick. To get the most out of the Vectors, one definitely needs to focus on being a bit more precise and follow through. Perhaps another way to say this is I think my XTs may have allowed me to be a little sloppy.

Worked on my modified flutter kick and today I could feel my technique was better. I can tell in the right hands, these fins excel at this power kick. I was really pushing a lot of water but didn’t feel a breath debt come on or like my legs were going to gas out. This kinda motivated to get back into peak fitness for C1 training.

Really nerded out on single foot helo turns. Also great - very precise.

The current was strong today over the reefs so there wasn’t much chance for back kick. I did some back kicks with the current but those don’t really count. I’m sure I’ll be in a wreck soon so that’ll be a good opportunity. I want precision, like Fred Astaire meets Florida spiny lobster precision, with twinset and two 40s. Keeping my fingers crossed.

The only part I was a bit non-plussed about today was during pick up. Head on surface I stand by for the DM to call me in and when he/she does I mash the gas with an old-school CDQC flutter kick and the XTs give me instant torque. I’ve never, ever doubted my arrival at the intended ladder even in 6ft swells when everyone’s getting nervous. Today the Vectors were a little mushy and I had to actually downshift my legs, increase RPMs and focus.

Overall, I’m happy but I haven’t driven them in a DS so the jury’s holding off on a verdict.

The weight retention screw is a durable but lightweight plastic. I can see one of these escaping custody and vanishing in a hurry. I think for $395 retail, Halcyon could provide a spare screw. Also, the threaded insert is SS. I don’t think it would be of any consequential weight if the set screws were also SS.
