Sharm el Sheik or Hurghada?

From what I'm reading, Dahab is the preferred Red Sea dive destination for a lot of posters here. But if you were a first time Red Sea diver and had to choose between Sharm el Sheik and Hurghada, which would you pick and why?

Sharm - for Ras Mohammed (Shark and Yolanda reef esp.), also the Thistlegorm.

Diving in Sharm is much better than Hurghada, IMHO.

If it's your first time in the Red Sea, I highly recommend Sinai in general (Sharm and Dahab). You can be based in Sharm and still pay a one- or two- days visit to Dahab.

Don't mean to hi-jack the thread, but does the answer change if the diving is from a liveaboard vs just day trips?

Yes it differs.

Hurghada is an excellent access point for liveaboards. It's just in the middle between the north and the south itineraries. Sharm is excellent for the north and the gulf itineraries.

I would go with Sharm first

Mania... I think u need to create a new sticky forum about all diving destination in Egypt and advantage and disadvantage of those destination

Cause i think it's 1 of the most frequent questions
