Oceanblue Divers to host special fundraiser screening of award-winning film to benefit Shark Research Institute

See the documentary everyone is talking about months before its US Release. Meet director Rob Stewart and other world-renowned shark experts. Educate yourself on the horrors of shark-finning.

Sharkwater has already won 14 awards worldwide and set box office records during its opening weekend in Canada.

Finally, there is a film that portrays sharks as the magnificent creatures they are - to be admired and protected rather than feared and senselessly killed. Rob Stewart is an award-winning cinematographer who weaves together beautiful images with horrendous reality, and leaves us all with a critical call to action. 100 million sharks are brutally pulled from the ocean every year, their fins and tails sliced off, and then tossed back into the water. Unable to swim, they sink to the bottom to bleed to death or drown.

Often garnering more than $300/lb, shark fins are tasteless, and add no flavor to dishes; the fins are nothing more than a status symbol, driven by the shark-finning industry.

The shark-finning industry is a close parallel to the illegal drug industry – full of underworld corruption and execution-style murders. In the next 10 years, it is anticipated most shark species will become extinct – an impact that threatens the health of not just the ocean but of the entire world.

If we are to stop this senseless brutality and save the remaining sharks, we must come together and act now.

See this movie. Educate yourself. Bring attention to the cause: end the cruel and senseless killing of sharks.
