Hello.

Does anybody have any numbers on how many sharks are killed each yea,r be it by longlines or any other method?.

Thanks

The estimates place the number up to 73,000,000 or more per year. The problem is with finning, the shark carcass is not on board and many species are killed through illegal poaching. Due to the slow reproduction cycles of sharks, 10-15yrs before sexually mature, they are being killed much faster than they reproduce. We are seeing huge declines in many species world wide and this year many more species will be added to the CITES list. The Shark Alliance
