Hey I found this cage diveing trip in RI anyone been? How was it see alot of sharks?

This would be my first time not shore diving and I know the crew takes you out and keeps you safe as possible, but you have to help to load and unload the boat. Now I'm not a lazy person but on their web site they ask for a 10% tip. I just figured the crew would take care of all the gear. What do you think?Shark diving

Personally, I believe that anyone who demands a tip is going over the line. I am usually happy to give something for the mate and crew, so long as they do a good job.

FWIW, this boat looks like it is primarily a fishing boat. If this is your first boat dive, I would recommend using a boat that caters to divers. I'd be happy to send you some names.

If you really want to do a cage dive, then check out Cpt. Palmer and Thunderfish. He runs a tight ship and is one of the local tech boats. I've used him in the past and expect to do so again this summer.

Found his webpage. Thunderfish

Note that Palmer usually caters to experienced divers. Unlike some of the other boats, he is not going to help you unless you ask for it.

sounds like fun, if you guys are going to go send me a pm, might want to do it.

bill harvey once bubbled...
Why would you kill that mako?
I have never tasted Mako but most sharks are good eating

I think they caught the shark fishing.
Thet don't start going out untill june, july. I have 4-5 people so I might very well need more people. I'm going to check out other places.

Snappa looks like it absolutely caters to divers as well as running fishing charters. It's not just a side line. The presentation I watched at Sea Rovers showed what looked to me to be an experienced crew and well run organization... I didn't see anything that seemed off-putting.

They've been doing shark charters for 32 years, and have been featured for it on National Geographic Explorer, Chronicle, NESN, Rodale's, Northeast Dive Journal, Wall St. Journal, and the Boston Globe. I don't doubt Thunderfish is a good outfit, but it sounds like they're just starting shark diving charters this year.

Snappa even has a "playpen" surface cage for snorklers or certified divers who don't want to miss out during the surface interval.

They recommend July for calmest conditions, and September and October for best vis and variety of encounters. I'd definately be interested!

Oh, and I had mako for dinner last night. It was delicious!
