Not a diver, but a body-boarder. Seems she stepped on the poor thing.

Yeah she was a body boarder and stood on a small shark. There's some classic quotes in the original report (Invercargill girl fights off shark - national | Stuff.co.nz)

"She just came out and said 'I've been bitten by a shark' and honestly, the terrible thing about it was I thought she was having me on and then she just pointed to her wetsuit and there's the bite marks."


"It was an unfortunate incident but when sea creatures are stood on people are always at risk."
 
Besides the foot print, I'm sure the shark is fine. Poor kid probably got a bunch of stitches.
 
At least they end the article with "Shark attacks are very rare. Researchers say that more people are killed by bee stings and lightning strikes than sharks." I agree, poor shark.
