My wife expressed the same reluctance. She still doesn't like to go much beyond 70 ft or so. We eased her feelings substantially by addressing them directly. This was done via AOW cert, with our deep dive to 100 ft. This was approx. our 25th dive. Made her very much more comfortable just knowing that everything she had studied about diving at that depth was actually true. Nevertheless, as others have written here, the shallower dives are more enjoyable to us because of our interest in reef inhabitants. Deep and dim has no appeal, frankly. Lots of bright denizens of all shapes and sizes hits the spot. Some of our favorite dives have been only 20-25 ft deep in the Keys (somebody mentioned Looe Key as great. We second that). But the important point is that we now have the experience that gives greater flexibility to diving. It came and continues to come with experience. Dive more, become more comfortable, and enjoy more, including a variety of depths.
