IceDiverInCA:
Families of those submariners were very appreciative of Richie Kohler's effort to reach out and let them know their true final resting place. If you know John, the last thing he cares about is fame. He frequently posts on History Channel's forum if you'd like to let him know that you don't agree with his past actions.

This is also a good one:

Ice, we're discussing the book. If he wants to read my post, he's more than welcome.
I could email George Bush if I wanted to, but really what's the point? Do you think Chatterton was so interested in The Lock Ness Monster that he and the History Channel went over and dove in the Lock? If he's getting paid, more power to him.

I enjoyed the book as a diver since it was a dramatic account of some beginning-intermediate tech divers finding a fresh sub. It was something attainable and meaningful to me in the context of diving. I think to a non-diver its not going to be interesting at all. All the historical parts would be a sleeper to many audiences out there.

I cannot read between the lines for you. Do you think they would dive this boat and risk their lives so many times just for self-satisfaction? ...

Sean

I would...and I think there are a few more here that would do the same.

:06: I didn't realize Chatterton was considered a beginning-intermediate tech diver when he found the uboat :06:

well... Ridley Scott is an awesome director

i can't actually think of anyone else i'd like to see do this project. i look forward to
it... few people could make this work, but Scott is one of them

other than James Cameron, he may be the only director in Hollywood right now
who could do the story justice

And neither can I. John and Ritchie may very well have been thinking "wow, this could make us famous" while they were working on identifying the sub. We don't know because we weren't in their heads. This doesn't diminish the book for me at all.

Why not? Most wreck divers I know dive and risk their lives for just that reason. It's like that old climber saying "because it's there."

They aren't Jacques Cousteau.....

I got news for you. Jacques was driven by fame. ;)

Cool. There hasn't been a "good" diver movie made in quite some time.

cool
i hope they dont put alot of unnessary drama in it to try and make it more apealing.

i wonder if there gonna use the seaker at all?

I just finished reading it for the second time! Hopefully the movie is as dramatic as the real life was! (and that Chatterton and Kohler contribute their footage and advice)

Now...here's the stupid quetion...Who should play WHO?

btw...I saw it in paperback for the first time...so all you broke people who spend all your money on dive gear can affod it! hahaha!

Just read this online:

"Fox 2000 has signed Ridley Scott to direct and produce SHADOW DIVERS, which is an adaptation of Robert Kurson's bestseller.
I read this book and loved it. A must read for any diver, IMO.

Thanks for the tip on the book, I'm gonna head out and find it now :P

See you on the bottom
