There was an amusing thread a while back discussing "what changes will Hollywood make to Shadow Divers in the movie" and some of them were pretty fun.

It is pretty much a given that the crew of the Seeker will all be wearing bikinis and the U-869 will be surrounded by water with the visibility of a Caribbean reef.

Was anyone else suprised by Chris Rouse's apparent lack of concern about his son's welfare? That was the impression I got from both books, that he was pushing him into dangerous situations he didn't feel comfortable with. I go bushwalking occasionally with my dad and he turns into the most defensive, paranoid, protective guy in the park. I don't have children myself, but I thought that was what parents usually did. Chris Rouse struck me as the opposite.

Both great books, anyway, although it's been a while since I read them. Maybe time for a revisit!

Having read the other books and other books involving that crew over the last 20years, it felt as though I had read Shadow Divers before.
It seemed repetitive but that can't be helped.

Reading the backstory about Chowdhoury, rather than his childish subjects, that was the supposed premiss for The Last Dive, was more interesting, educational and realistic in that his incident could occur to a far broader range of divers at varying depths.

Fox has hired Robert Schwentke to try to rework the Shadow Divers script. Where it goes from here is anyone's guess.

I am not sure when or if PBS will air the Nova program, Hitler's Lost Sub, but if you are interested, you can get the DVD from Amazon among other places like the U-505 Gift Shop in Chicago.
