Setting up a Reg for Travel

My normal setup is a Zeagle Z Flathead 7, Atomic SS1 Titanium, and an Aeris AI computer.
I also own an Aeris Epic, but no transmitter.
The reg on my redundant rig is a Zeagle ZX DSV and a Zeagle Slimline Pressure Gauge.

For travel, I'm thinking of taking the Aeris AI off my FH 7, plugging in my Slimline Pressure Gauge, and using my Epic wrist computer.

Anyone have any better and or cheaper ideas or does this make sense?

Sorry, should have mentioned it.
I'm looking to save a little weight and space.
I will be wearing the Epic as my watch, so why have the redundancy when I'll be in clear tropical water within rec diving limits.

Regs are real space wasters in luggage because of the octopus it is. To be able to cram as much stuff in my pelican carry on I disassemble the kit. 1st stage second stage , everything. I plug off all open hose ends and regulator openings. My backplate and harness goes in to. Not the wing. Video camera goes in , disassembled somewhat.
Dive computer, compass, mask all in the pelican case. Pelican isn't huge either. It's brief case size only a little thicker.
The only thing that does not go in there is stuff they would want to confiscate.
Wing, wetsuit and fins go in checked luggage. Don't even need a special travel dive bag.
Have someone show you how to disassemble / assemble your regs and you can take it all. Afterall , you bought it so you could dive it.

Hoses are half the battle. If you want to make your regs easier to pack, switch to Miflex hoses. I get a set of doubles regs, plus two stage rigs easily into one reg bag, no problem, along with my Vytec DS and a Uwatec bottom timer.

Personally, I like diving the same rig everywhere. Only time I'll re-configure is going from doubles to single tank, and even then I'm diving the same set up, just one less 1st stage.

Thanks for the info on the Miflex hoses. My FH 7 came with one and I really dig it.
I was thinking about adding one to my redundant system (but not for travel reasons).
Too bad their HP hoses are junk.

I agree with RJP, Why change the rig your are used to diving with on a regular basis. Even if it is clear water Caribbean diving, if the crap hits the fan, your instincts will take over. Your instincts will function much better with gear that is setup in a consistent manner that you are used to.

I would put the gear you usually use in carry-on. Unless you are taking a puddle-jumper within the Caribbean I have not had my carry-on weighed yet.

The ony time my carry-on was ever weighed was on a puddle-jumper flight from Curacao to Bonaire.

My family owns three SS1s and three ATMOS AI dive computers.

I take at least the hoses out of the first stage. Usually leave em on the second stages since they don't take up much room. All of it fits in a duffel bag. I'm lucky now with my sidemount since I'm using a swivel and they pack up real small now, but still usually take everything off for travel. I'd bring what you usually have, but disassemble. May want to leave your HP hose on the console though, those tend to be a PITA

I would just take my reg as is. I put my first stage in one corner and route the hoses around the outside of the suitcase, all fits nicely. The last thing I would do is be dependent on an AI for my pressure gauge. If you have one or more hoses that just will not cooperate, remove them and plug the holes until you get to your resort. A simple wrench or 2 in your checked luggage is all the tools you need to replace them.

Can you explain why? Mine has never had a problem that I know of...
Do people attach a second analog pressure gauge?

I also realize it makes sense to keep things the way they are, I appreciate everyone's feedback.
