A thought occurred to be about the DIR config while out diving the other day - seriously - no trolling here...

DIR advocates only one hip mounted D-ring on the left hip for the SPG. If one was to carry two AL40 stage bottles, etc., how would he/she clip the bottle to the right side of their harness w/o a D-ring on the right hip as well?

???

He wouldn't. Both stage bottles go on the left, with the spg on the outside so it can be lifted over the shoulder to be read conveniently. The light canister goes on the right.

OK,
Thanks. The more I dive, and I have tried everything - the more I am realizing that DIR is truly the way to go. I tried jacket BC's, OMS IQ's, Dive Rite Trans Pac's - and none of them compare with the practicality of a simple stainless steel BP and wing. It takes about 30 mins to adjust - never goes out of adjustment - and will last for years. In the advent of a cut strap, etc - one can find 2" webbing at any dive shop on the world - for a mere $10 - and be back in business. WHY does everyone (incl me) think that if its not a BC that cost $500 - its isn't comfortable and won't work.

As someone one said to me "Would YOU mountain climb with a harness with a Fastex buckle on it?" My reply was "Not on your life."

I've unloaded all my non-DIR compliant gear - and I've had a lot - simply because this DIR thing is based on a simple, modular unit that can be easily converted into doubles, etc. with a couple of screws and a set of tank bands.

Can't beat it...

Uncle Pug,
No, I know - next step is a DIR:F Course.

I'm sure there is tons of info, tips, and techniques to be had...

Even more important that the info, tips and techniques is the mindset and (man, I hate to use this shop-worn phrase) holistic approach to diving you will start to learn in the DIRf.

Yea,
I read the DIR:F book before - kinda hard to argue with a system that emphasizes fitness, mental attitudes, though processes, skills training, etc.

What do you mean by the spg on the outside?

The bolt snaps for the stage bottles and the spg are all clipped to the same D-ring. The bolt snaps for the stage bottles are arranged to be inside of (closer to your body) the clip for the spg.
