I have a little extra money to blow so I am thinking of purchasing a sensus Pro profile recorder. I am currently using a Genesis React Pro computer. I am also thinking of the profile software for that particular computer. I would like to get some feedback on both. The pros and cons on the two recorders. If someone has either or both, please throw some info at me. It will be greatly appriciated.

I don't have the Sensus pro, but from what I've seen the temperature reading is extremely accurate. The only other measurements it records is depth and time.

I do have a React Pro, and the Temperature reading is VERY SLOW to 'react' when you go below the thermocline and into colder water. You have to be in colder water for 10 to 15 minutes for it to fully react. So if you're wanting the profile software to have have any accuracy degree on temp, you're waisting your money.

other than that, the two major differences is the React computes Nitrogen and O2 loading, the sensus doesn't, so you readouts will differ with that.

Hope that helps.

I've been using the Sensus Ultra which is the latest model. The Software is not as slick as my Suunto downloads but it does work very well and is open architecture if someone wanted to improve upon it.
I always clip it in my pockets when I dive since I dont use the computer any more for diving.
The profiles on depth, temp and duration are the best out there:14:
Thats my 2 cents worth!

Glad you are all enjoying our products. To be perfectly fair, I should say that our devices do have a certain amount of temperature lag...but less than most dive computers since the device has a smaller thermal mass. The only way to reduce the lag further would be to make the casing out of metal, which is more thermally-conductive.

It's also worth noting that since our recorders have such high resolution (0.5 inches for depth, 0.01 degrees for temp), even though there is a lag, you will be able to spot the onset of a thermocline quite easily.

ATB, if you haven't already done so, give our software a try (it's free). It includes some sample data from a Sensus Pro which lets you use all the features. There are also a number of third-party software packages -- some commercial, some free -- that support our recorders. Pick your poison, or concoct your own!

Dive safely,

Kris

I have both the software for the ReAct and a Sensus Ultra.

After switching from XP to XP SP/2 the ReAct software stopped working. I emailed 'tech support' was was promptly told that XP was not supported by there software. So when I purchased my Wisdom I refused to buy the software (as it's written by the same company). My logic was you don't support me I won't support you.

I then came across the Sensus Ultra and I couldn't be any happier with the product then I already am. Sure the software is simple but it gets the job done and it's easy to export it out into something else (ie excel or some other spreadsheet program).

Support has been excellent, to the point the only tech support I've needed was an eta as to when it was going to ship. I ordered mine before they actually were being mass produced so it took alittle longer to get. But the emails were returned quickly and were all ways correct in the information that I was being told.

For what it's worth, I export my data into excel then create charts with the Depth, Temp and Time on them the print them off onto a 2x4 inch label that I then insert onto my log.

The only two things I'd like to see is a way with in the software to be able to select either all the metric data or all the imperial data, instead of either everything or having to individually select data you want. The other thing as long as it doesn't show any propriatory stuff would be a picture of the inside of the unit. This of course is minor.

It's amazing what can be done just with Excel. For instance, here's a very impressive profile analysis tool created as an Excel spreadsheet. It reads data exported with the new export feature in our v2.56 software:

Pretty cool (and free)!

You mean a picture of the circuit board? If you saw it, I'd have to kill you. ;)

In truth there's not much to see/hide...sensor, processor, memory, and serial interface chips interfaced on a roughly 1" square board. A grand total of 15 components. In fact, the battery takes up nearly 3x the volume of all the electronics combined.

The on-board firmware is where all the real action (and intellectual property) is.
