We'll be at CCV March 5-12. I have a marathon March 19. I'll be in taper mode anyway, and diving March 6-12 and won't be running those days. But if I want to get one in on arrival, or even take a day off diving (unlikely, but in case....), any place to run near CCV? I don't mind trails, dirt roads, hills, etc.

I know i know, I'm on vacation, blah blah :) But one of the most enjoyable aspects of most of my trips is getting out on a run and seeing the area from a different perspective. Plus there's the pesky marathon thing.

From what I am seeing on the 'net I think I already know the answer, and I am ok with that.

And to be quite honest, knowing myself well, between multiple dives a day and a few refreshments, plus an available hammock, I am unlikely to run during the week at any rate. Just want to know if there are options...

Thanks

You can always do laps around the resort.

Bring a dry bag and put your swim gear in. Have the resort shuttle you over, do your run, then change at FI and swim across.
Swim or have a buddy kayak you to FI and start your run.

On the off-chance that someone you're with wants to go shop/eat in the West End - people run between there and West Bay regularly - I saw one group that looked like they just had run by once. There's even a slight elevation change. It's not the safest thing to do by yourself though - there have been reports of robberies of people who walk between the two. It's only about two miles though and cabs are available on either end. I think CCV can set that tour up also. For me it would be too far to go just to run but I don't run either.

At CCV there is a substantial two-track sand path (for golf carts) that runs the length of the resort. If you don't need elevation changes, this is your easiest access for running and there is zero concern about safety. It's that white line between the Ocean and the canal. The resort is that cluster of white buildings at the top end of the line, the track runs the length of the Playa Miguel rental Beach Houses. (Fantasy Island is upper left)

There's a fitness center at the Clarion Suites in French Harbor if you wanted to run on a treadmill or elliptical etc. It's probably under? a mile from CCV. Never been there but they've got the equipment

3.8 kilometers, just over 2 miles

I know you're an experienced diver and runner, so you probably have developed your own views on exercise and DCS, but as you probably know the jury is still out on exercising after diving. DAN recommends waiting 24 hours before "strenuous" exercise to minimize the chance of DCS. I'm sure that is a conservative recommendation. Exercise before diving seems to be considered safe, possibly even beneficial. I have on occasion done an easy early morning run before going diving later in the day.

Brought back some great memories! My wife, was a very serious runner and training for a marathon on our first trip, she brought all of her running gear. The first morning she went running. Not too long after she ran by the Cabana, then again and again! Not a place for distance training unless you hit the Roatan roads which after your drive to the dock you might not feel like doing. She focused on long swims, complained but ran her best marathon one month after. Buy some really good swim goggles and get some great swim work outs with a great reef to view? Thanks for the memory of her running by every few minutes!

Yes, I would limit running to the day I got there or the day we leave, or a day completely off diving (we all know THAT ain't gonna happen though!!)

I am a swimmer as well, is there swimming allowed in the channel between CCV and FI or is there a lot of boat traffic?

Swim along the Coco View Wall, on the North side of the channel.

There is some small mount of boat traffic within the channel itself. Amuse yourself by sitting on-shore and observing which particular dive operations speed through this area. It isn't CCV. So- stay near the CCV coral heads.

If you want calmer waters, do your swimming (see the satellite image) at the upper left end of CCV in that diamond shaped enclosure.
