A question is why is your program requiring a DM and preferably an Instructor cert? This could be helpful to know. Was the requirement put in place by a clueless person who thinks it’s a convenient way to guarantee skills or experience? Or by their insurance company? Or do they have another reason? Seems there are certs out there that might serve them better. Probably you can’t convince them to change requirements in time for whatever you are doing, but maybe it is worth looking into, suggesting an alternative. Scientific diver certification? Or whatever does make sense.
I see your side, but also why you are seeing lots of resistance to what you are looking for.
Yeah I’ve heard of it too. The question is, why? The OP said it didn’t make sense in this case. So is there a good reason the OP is unaware of, or a bad reason, or…?I’ve heard of other research type programs requiring DM cert, so it’s not unheard of. Not sure how common it is.
