I'm looking to get underwater -- fast. Have no one to travel with. Want to spend most of my time underwater. Bonaire sounds lovely, but the shore-diving/rental care aspect leads me to believe that going by myself might not work out. Does anyone have any experience with this?

If not Bonaire, any other suggestions? Went to Utila last year, so that's out. Just looking for a fun place with affordable budget accomodation and wicked diving that doesn't cater just to couples. Is this too much to ask?

Thanks!

Bonaire is a wonderful place to dive solo or with a buddy. If you want to try to find a buddy you can go to www.Bonairetalk.com and see who is going to be there when you are planning to travel.

Another option could be Cozumel since the majority of the diving is from a boat so you can pair up with the dive master if necessary.

Whatever you decide to do - Have fun!!

Just came back from a solo trip on the Turks and Caicos Explorer. For a solo diver (or anyone else that doesn't want to dry off) I found the liveaboard experience to be the best ever (I regularly travel solo, this was my first liveaboard and I loved it). Great diving (4-5 times a day), good food and a great way to make new friends.

You should consider places like Scuba Club Cozumel . It is an all inclusive where virtually all guests are either divers or non-divers that came with a diver. I like the camaraderie and friendly atmosphere. You will quickly get to meet the other guests since they are the same people you see on the dive boat each day.

Rather than eating alone in a typical tourist resort restaurant filled with couples and families you will find yourself joining other groups of divers.

While the shore diving pales in comparison to the reefs you see while boat diving, it's hard to beat the convenience of getting up from your afternoon siesta in the oceanside hammocks, grabbing a tank, and splashing in for a quiet afternoon shore dive.

Perhaps others can point you towards this sort of dive-dive-dive oriented resort in Bonaire.

I vote for Bonaire. Plenty of divers to find a buddy, and great diving!

Ill be there in July..come on down! Ill dive with ya!

You may want to go over to the Bonaire board and let it be known that you are a diver traveling alone and are looking for someone to dive with. Be honest about your skills and diving preferences. I had the pleasure of meeting and diving with 2 solo travelers on Bonaire last March. My wife and I joined up with them and we had an enjoyable week with 2 new friends. I will be on island a week or 2 before Drew and I know of at least 2 other solo divers that are there about the same time as Drew.
