Hello all,

I have a spare Apeks xtx40 octopus and my question is, is it acceptable to use it on a deco cylinder with a dst first stage or do I have to put an xtx50 on the deco cylinder that’s what I use for my main and secondary regulators.

Cheers
Nick

an xtx40 is a 50 without the knob
So.. I wanna yes 🤷🏽‍♀️

It is nice it’s tuned a bit stiff already (as is in octo “mode”) since it’s not breathed till deco

I liked the idea of having a deco 2nd with a knob personally to detune them till I deploy the reg; but mostly the value of that hasn’t proven realistic
If I get a momentary freeflow it’s almost always my SM 2nds (one tends to do it while the tanks are in the water and I go get my 50%bottle and fins from shore almost every 10th dive; then I remember the damn Venturi 😂)

I thought so too that it would be just fine, I’m just getting into tec diving and wanted to make sure, tec is another ball game all together

I have a mix of XTX40 and XTX50 regs. Personally I use the XTX40 for my necklace (since that's detuned basically all the time), and I use the XTX50s on my long hose and deco reg. Reason being that I expect to be breathing off those regs for the entire dive, but I want to be able to detune whichever reg isn't in my mouth, so that it doesn't freeflow when I'm on the trigger.

If it really concerns you, you can turn an XTX40 into an XTX50 for about $40 in parts, as the only actual different is the adjustment knob.

However, one thing I think is actually more relevant is the exhaust tee - there's a small and large Apeks exhaust tee (very easy to interchange) - if you have the big tee on your deco reg, it'll prevent you from tucking the hose nicely behind the reg mouthpiece.
