As long as you clean your gear after every dive trip, you shouldn't have any problems with it for a very looong time.

The only part that may need servicing some time down the road, may be the power inflator and it can be replaced cheaply by the owner very easily.

If you have a integrated power inflator/octo, you should service it with your regulators anually.

If you're mechanically inclined, you may be able to service/repair your power inflator with a few standard tools.

If you want to repair/service your own regs, you should take the equipment specialist course, very cheap and shows you how things work.

Yes, that's one of those classes I planned on taking. Fortunately, my LDS has been in business for over 30 years, and it's kind of an icon in local diving community. I don't worry about their quality.

You're right when you trust a reputable LDS as I do.

I took the class just to know how things work and in case of emergency I can deal with a sudden repair.

I take my regs to the LDS for service since it's easier for me that way, but one time I got a leak in my reg testing the gear the night before a dive and I was able to fix/adjust a minor leak that in other case I would had to borrow a set of regs for the dive.

I can't remember ever "servicing" a bcd. Replaced inflator hose once or twice. Replaced dump valve that fell off. Now I'm working on patching one. If you take it to a shop they probably won't do anything but inflate it, deflate it and charge you $20.
