I hear alot about ppl getting sick and I'm wondering if these are typically ppl that don't take any preventive meds or if they just didn't take them consistantly, or if they just don't always work.
I would be interested in hearing everyone's stories and if anything helped to prevent from throwing up everywhere.

Dub,

One thing that I’ve seen is that people don’t take the meds sufficiently ahead of time to let it get into their system. I got a prescription for the Scop patch and start it the night before. At first, it makes me drowsy so I get a good night’s sleep and it’s in my system but the drowsiness has worn of by the time I get to the boat in the morning.

Thanks Mike,
I'm curious tho-- why did you get a prescription? Did the over the counter stuff not work or...... did you just not want to take any chances?

never been seasick...never taken any medication...

As a matter of fact, the only time I have even gotten sick on a boat was the morning of a deep-sea fishing trip....it was after a 12 hour drinking binge the night before and I was hung-over as hell. the 1 hour ride out the the fishin hole cured me after I chummed the sea a little, and the 3 foot seas didn't affect me at all once we were there.

hey t-- lol I'm thinking i will stay away from the alcohol!

I have already been sicksick-- i don't know what happened but my brother was teasing me about getting sick and sure enough I did. I also am very pale and don't handle the sun well. I have gotten sick after a day at the amusement park but i'm sure it was the heat and not the rides!

Dub,
The scop patches are a narcotic, hence the need for a Rx.

Nothing personal, but I HATE YOU.

Scop patches work for me, but only for a limited amount of time, and/or limited seas. For long hauls or rough water, nothing works. Last time I attempted to dive in NJ, I was sick for 3 days, and lost 7 lbs! :chuck:
Dramamine works about the same, but I have not yet tried doping myself for a day or two in advance, which these good folks suggested I do. I will be sure to try it out and report back! :)

Yea Sue let me know if that fixes the problem. I eventually want to try one of these group trips to the bahamas and I hear it gets rough sometimes, I would just hate for the meds to wear off right as i'm talking to some hottie!

I'm one of those despicable never-get-sick types like Big-T, but my wife has always been a miserable boat passenger. She tried Ginger, Scop patches, Bonine, Dramamine and VooDoo. Nothing really did the trick for her. The only real solution we've found is the Relief Band.

This sounds like a commercial, but all I know is that it works. And what's nice is that a person can use it after the onset of symptoms, unlike any of the drugs. So, in my wife's case, if we're cruising out to a divesite on glassy waters, she starts off not wearing it. But if the pitch and roll of breakers gets to her, the band goes on and problem's solved.

Check out the site, apparently there's some science behind the device, and it can work for any kind of nausea including Morning Sickness. Expensive bugger, though.

Good luck pukers! :D

Rick

P.S. I recommend the battery replaceable version, and don't pay retail. There's plenty of sources for less.
