Hi Scuba board,

As I have been reading through the forums I have found, and I know others have, that there is a lot of duplicate posts on various topics. Basically readers are not utilizing the search feature and they start a new thread. A lot of these posters seem to be new to the forums and are still finding their way around.

My suggestion would be to add in as another topic. A search forum topic. It would include giving instruction and tips on doing basic and advanced searches. It would be located and look something like this, when you click on “forums”, under the “scuba diving central” you would have…

New divers and those considering diving
Basic scuba diving
Search forums (or something like this)
Underwater Photography

My thought is by adding it in here; it would be in reader’s plain site more and they would be more inclined to use it.

So I will leave this with you to think about and just add that you have an excellent site that I enjoy all the learning and entertainment that it offers.

Thank you

Ah yes, good post. Here again though your post is "burried" and will not be seen by the new user until they are used to the layout of the board. By then they would know how to use the search feature.

Using myself as an example, this is only my second trip down the "site support lane" and I can only guess as to how many people have not been down this lane. So if the search feature was put in plain view of the reader more so than what it is I think it would get used more, hopefully.

It's an idea.

Thanks

Well, I did put the link in my Sig, and I do greet every new Intro on that forum, but I don't know if anyone has ever clicked it or not?

My first reaction is that most are going to skip the Search forum just like they skip Stickies - which are required reading. But maybe your idea has merit...?

Stickies??? Required reading??? lol...so where do I find this search feature??????

El Orans:
I take it you haven't seen the Search FAQ?

Where is this found? I can not find this other than following the link you have provided.

Look at the blue menu bar, under ScubaBoard. That's where you'll find the FAQ.

The only way I know to find FAQ is to find one of El Orans posts and go to his Sig - but I confuse easily. I just looked atht the blue bar - don't see it...??

Here's a screen shot of what I see...

When looking at the blue menubar, you'll see a white triangle next to "ScubaBoard". That's an indication that it's a dropdown list. Click on it to see all its options.
