scubadiverjunkie:
I have the SeaQuest PRO QD - I love it !! Anyone else dive this ?

Used to dive one. Great rig for a jacket. Moved to DRTPII when I started Tec diving.

I have the Balance and really like it except for the tank strap. If you don't soak the strap in water before you attach it to the tank and then really crank it on tight it can slip off the tank. Despite my best efforts to tighten the strap I had it slip a few times. I ended up tossing the strap and bought a ScubaPro strap. MUCH, MUCH better. I wouldn't buy the Balance again without the ScubaPro strap.

Same story for me.

One reason I like the Freedom is that it has two tank bands. Even if I don't get them real tight, they never come loose.

I have a Sherwood Freedom that I like very much. I am a new diver and have only taken it on two trips, for 16 dives. I wanted a back buoyancy BC. The Freedom is comfortable and reasonably small. I especially like the two extra trim pockets on the BC. I have found that by putting about 40% of my lead in them, it is much easier to swim horizontally.

I used the balance for 5 years. As long as you wet the tank strap first it will not slip in my experience. I own a large size BC and the lift is good. I have used it with a low pressure steel 120 with reel, lift bag, 40CF deco bottle, drysuit, etc. for diving in New England to the tropics with no problem.

I have the Balance - but I'll bet either one is good. Why not try them both and go with the one you feel works best for you?

You folks have all been great! Tihis board is great! Thanks for all your opinions and thoughts thus far.--Jason

i have a seaquest balance and my friend has the sherwood freedom, In my opinion both are good bc's and if your just recreational diving either will do you good. i chose the sq balance cause it fit me a little better and was a little more comfy.
I have done several dives with my balance and love it. It is easy t0o don llots of adjustments comfy and easy to "trim" your wieght load for optimal body positioning.

Oh yea and i just didnt understand the freedoms center pocket UNDER the locking strap its practically inaccessable. That is my friends only con for his freedom as well.

Hope this helps

Both are good so i would say go with whatever fits you better.
