Can anyone tell me what type of BCD the Navy Seals use?? please dont tell me it's a Aqualung brand!!!! or I've just lost £50.00{running bet}:11:

I know that the Zeagle Ranger BC is in heavy use by the US Navy and Seals, but I believe that they can choose any BC that is on the ANU (Approved for Naval Usage) Listing. If I recall correctly, each command can choose whichever gear they want to carry from that list. I can tell you for certain that there are literally thousands of Zeagle BCs in use by the military right now...

Don't know if this info will win you the bet, but good luck! :D

Give me until tomorrow and I will find out for you. We have a Seal det here in Guam as well as EOD det.

My wife just recently went on a tour, with her ward room, of the decompression chamber the military uses here on Guam. The tour was conducted by a Navy Deep Construction Diver. I'm not sure if he was a SEAL; however, I doubt he was. She asked them if they ever used regular BC's like a recreational diver might use and his reply was that they used Zeagle Rangers. Hope you can use this :)

I've seen photos with SEALs using Zeagles, but keep in mind, like many special operations units, individuals can use *any* BC they want. They have special procurement guidelines that aren't bound by the ANU list.

i spoke with a guy today with the det here in Guam and he said that they mostly use rebreathers with harnesses. He said that they can use anything they want, as long as it is blacked out for concealment purposes.

Redd,
We need to get together for some diving. I am fairly new to it myself. Where does your wife work? My wife and I are both at the hospital. lmk if you might be interested.

I spent six years as a member of SEAL Team 8. Almost all our dives are done on rebreathers. We really don’t use any BCs. What we use is called a Secumar. It has two small air bottles, one on each side, and is used primarily for emergency flotation. Neutral buoyancy is a must.

On the rare occasion when we did use SCUBA (open circuit), we used horseshoe BCs, with steel backpacks.

As for buying our own gear to use on a dive operation, primarily a BC, it wouldn’t happen. A lot of guys, including myself purchased our own masks and fins, but nobody bought there own BC to use at “work.”

On a personal note, for recreational diving I use a Zeagle Ranger. I love integrated weights and I personally think that they have the best weight release system around.

As for your bet, the rebreathers and secumars were built by Draeger, which is now owned by Aqualung.

Are you sure Dräger is owned by Aqualung? Rather big company, diving is just a tiny part of what they do. From their press releases Aqualung only distributes their recreational diving equipment SCRs, BCs, regs etc.). Even the Nova FFM isn't sold through Aqualung ... .

Anyway, here two pics of the Secumar2/42 vest.
You'll see it used with Dräger LAR O2 rebreathers almost everytime.

I saw that too. If you go to aqua lungs website draeger is listed as one of their brands on bottom.
