I have had my SeaLife camera for 2 years. In Bonaire 1/1013 diving at about 40 feet, when out of the blue the plate supporting the strobe arm snapped apart into two pieces for absolutely no reason. Was fortunate to find another plate at Buddy Dive during our trip. Turned out this plate model had some issues(wobbly and would not sit flush with the housing). Next trip was in Cozumel in 11/2013 and my camera flooded, it was completely DOA. 'O' rings were secure, so who knows what happened.
Here is my conundrum. I am heading to Bonaire in 2/2014 and wondering what to do about a camera. I have been reading up on the Olympus TG-2. The camera sans housing is depth rated to 50 feet. The set up with strobe and housing runs around $1200(Backscatter :: Underwater photo :: package deals). It would be more $$$ than replacing my SeaLife camera, but I don't want to keep throwing money at a product that is not holding up despite taking meticulous care of it. On the other hand, I have managed to capture some amazing with my SeaLife. Any advise and insight would be greatly appreciated.
