That's huge since most UW shots are under 8', but not 2'. To me that could mean you could basically leave it set to the mountain icon and get much faster shutter response, plus it would always be ready to fire (except when shooting macro, etc). If that is true, are there any cons to leaving it in this setting?

BTW, I just got mine and read the manual and mine says 8 ft (not 8.5???).

During my dives tomorrow, I will set to autofocus to start with and then try the infinity focus.

I would love to hear the results. I will be trying it out in Cozumel in a couple weeks, too.

I would also like to see someone from SeaLife confirm the error in the manual here on this board. In fact, I would be very happy to hear that 2' is correct.

I personally spoke to sealife and they confirmed it was 2.5ft and that 8.5 ft was a mistake. There is still no word from sealifejoe and I did PM him a couple of days ago

How did the testing go? Care to share the results?

Well, not the greatest..Vis was only about 15-20 feet at Catalina, CA. My Sea life strobe did not work underwater. It worked fine above and once I got in the water, it would not fire. I moved the optical cable around after the 1st dive and the strobe fired fine, but again did not work on the 2nd dive. It's really hard to tell from the pic in the manual how excatly it should be placed. I now have it placed pointed up on the last groove. Hopefully this will work. I used auto focus and macro shots which worked best with the limited vis. and not having the strobe working. I'll post a few pics in a bit.

Here's a few pics. Anybody have any advice on the placement of the optical cable? On a positive note...Wow the cameras battery last a long time.

Nice pictures. They seem too red. How deep were you? What was the camera set on? Was the water really that red? Are these pictures from when the flash was working?

The camera will add red at depth balancing the whites because red is eliminated by the water. The flash has plenty of red. If you have a flash and the camera doesn't know about it the pictures will be too red (compensating where it isn't needed). Similarly, if you shoot shallow (as I did while snorkeling) in sea mode, your pictures will be too red.
If you turn on the cameras internal flash, it automatically switches to land-mode.

I now use a strobe diffuser and it is suppose to make the colors warmer

I'm 10 days away from getting to use it UW. Playing with it at home on land, the batteries do seem to last forever. This is in contrast to my DC500 batteries which are good for about 40 - 50 shots max. Diving near home I now open the case up on the boat and change the battery between dives, but I won't in the Carribean due to the humidity.

I will try to get some impressions and hopefully pics on here within a couple weeks.
