Add-up to the accident on Saturday in front of Marsa Alam:
On Saturday around 12pm, the M/Y Samara Cruise was returning from a diving safari to Marsa Alam when an incident occurred in strong north winds and high waves. Due to the impact of the waves, a plank broke above the waterline, causing water to enter the hull of the ship.
Due to the difficult weather conditions, other boats were banned.
The Samara Cruise crew reacted quickly and made an emergency call, which was forwarded by the authorities to the nearby Shams Alam Diving Center. Thanks to the coordinated operation, all guests were safely evacuated and brought ashore. The ship remained afloat and could later return to the harbor itself.
The M/Y Samara Cruise, which was acquired only last year by the current owner and undergone extensively renovated, is specifically aimed at Czech divers and snorkelers. In addition to the renovations, additional cabins were created to expand the capacity of the ship. It is not known to us whether the renovation had reached the hull.
Despite the difficult circumstances, the rescue operation was successful and all participants remained uninjured.
