I am on the Velocean Jan 8-16, and then staying on at a land resort for another 10 days since it’s so dang far to get there. My local dive shop chartered the whole boat,
That’s right, when you are heading to the other side of the world, you need to stay there at least 2 weeks to get your money’s worth.

I’ll be on White Manta Jan 15-24 going to Misool, Fak-Fak & Triton Bay. Then staying for 5 days in Raja4Divers dive resort in Pulau Pef Jan 25 - Feb 1.

Do you know their planned itinerary? Also would appreciate link to info they moved through the night 🙏

Marsa Shouna -> Sataya

By the way, it didn't capsize 05:30 as stated almost everywhere. This article is one of the few that correctly describes the time of capsizing, because they were talking with a person that actually was involved:

Nothing in that article surprises me.

Thanks for sharing that. I’m curious to hear first-hand accounts from survivors, I hope they speak out. The lack of transparency from the government and the company creates an information void that just fuels all kinds of speculation.

This was one of the statements I found very interesting in the article.

“When the rescue team came they did not bring extra masks and shared regulators. It was deemed a risky operation with reports of sharks circling around the cadavers.”

I need a Cautious Next-gen

You mean Nautilus nexGen? Good idea!

Make sure to test it with the cruise director (CD) and the captain, before embarking. I did this with Blue Manta. After setting MMSI of the boat on the Nautilus nexGen, I gave it to the CD. He took it down to the harbor. After walking some distance away from the boat, he pressed the red button. The captain showed me the MOB alert on AIS monitor with the GPS coordinates where the CD was.

So the boat being “moored for the night”, is also “quite a BS speculation” by @roman50.
Speculation or not, it capsized in shallow water. And quite often, liveaboard boats in Egypt plan the routes and dive sites so they can be moored overnight for varuous reasons, among them the treacherous reefs that are dangerous at night, as the vast number of shipwrecks in this area can testify.

Note to self:
Liveaboard.com Has been added to my no go list alongside Expedia, Hotels.com, and most every other third party booking app. I had plans to dive Egypt next fall as an excuse to visit Luxor again, but not now after all these horror stories coming out of there recently.

I’ve also gained a lot of knowledge from these LOB disaster threads and will do my due diligence next time I book a dive trip.

Even with today's basic GPS systems, a captain should be able to pilot a boat through these areas blindfolded. I give it pretty good odds that many (locally owned) Red Sea liveaboards have compromised GPS systems, never mind the day boats.
